YouTube multi-language audio: how to add an English audio track
One video, several audio languages: viewers pick the language and the views stay on your original upload. Here is what YouTube requires, what it has reported, and when a separate English channel can make more sense.
What is said: Step one, download your dubbed video. Step two, add its audio as a new language track on YouTube. That's it.
What is said: Paso uno: descarga tu video doblado. Paso dos: añade su audio como una nueva pista de idioma en YouTube. Eso es todo.
What is said: Passo um: baixe seu vídeo dublado. Passo dois: adicione seu áudio como uma nova faixa de idioma no YouTube. É isso.
Demo clip: an AI-generated scene with a fictional character. Dubbed with VDub v2, the model DubSync runs; lip-synced tracks use VSync v2.
Lip-sync shown in these examples is an optional paid add-on, separate from the dubbing trial.
What multi-language audio is
Multi-language audio lets you add dubbed audio tracks to a video you've already published.2 The video keeps one link, one view count and one set of comments, and viewers can switch the audio language in the player.
YouTube reported that creators who uploaded multi-language audio saw, on average, over 25% of their watch time from views in a video's non-primary language.1 That is YouTube's average across creators using the feature, not a typical or guaranteed result.
What you need first
Step by step
Make the English track
Dub the video into English.
Upload your original to DubSync, choose English, review the minutes and confirm. You get an English MP4 with a voice for each speaker.
Prepare the audio file.
YouTube Help lists the file types it accepts for audio tracks. If it needs audio only, export the audio from the English MP4 with any video or audio editor.
Add it in YouTube Studio.
Open the video's language settings, add English and upload the track. Follow YouTube Help for the current steps.
Label and check it.
Check whether disclosure is required for your use case, then play the English track from start to finish.
Choosing a format
Audio track or separate English channel?
English audio track
One video, one view count. Discovery depends on YouTube playing the right track to the right viewer.
Separate English channel
Its own subscribers and recommendations. YouTube's policies on reused content and on generic or repetitive content apply, so present it as your official English channel and avoid mass uploads.5
Other platforms
The same English MP4 can go to TikTok, Reels, Facebook or your own site.
One data point: Kapwing reported that a Portuguese channel with 162,000 subscribers got 32 views in 90 days from an added Spanish audio track, while a separate Spanish channel got 3,897.6 That is one channel and one test, so treat it as an anecdote, not a rule.
Why English in particular
An English track is the version most likely to reach viewers in the countries where YouTube advertisers paid the most. Whether it does depends on who finds it: English is also the language of large, lower-paying audiences.
In 2024 data, US advertisers paid ~7× as much per 1,000 ad impressions as advertisers in Mexico, and ~9× as much as in Brazil.7
CPM is what advertisers pay, not what a creator earns. Pay depends on where viewers watch, the niche and YouTube Partner Program eligibility. No result is guaranteed.
- Add the English track to the same video.
- Or publish it on an official English channel.
- Or post the MP4 on other platforms.
Questions
Common questions
Does YouTube already dub my videos?
It may. YouTube's automatic dubbing is switched on by default for eligible channels, and you can review or remove those dubs.3 To upload your own English track, remove the English auto-dub for that video first.
Can I add more than one language?
Yes, a video can carry a track for each language. In DubSync each target language is its own project, priced by the length of your original video.
Will the English track sound like me?
Each speaker's English voice is created from their original voice, so it should sound similar, not identical. Listen to the whole track before you publish it.
Do I have to label an AI-dubbed track?
YouTube exempts cloning your own voice for a dub or voiceover; realistic changes that mislead viewers still need disclosure.4 Speaker permission is separate; check each platform before publishing.
