An animated character

  • The character keeps its bright, young voice in Tamil.
  • Music and forest sounds stay under the new speech.
  • Stylized mouths rarely need lip-sync, so a plain dub is usually enough for animation.

Narration over footage

A narrator never shows their lips, so nothing has to match on screen. This is the simplest kind of video to dub into Tamil: the voice changes and the picture stays exactly as you cut it.

Who you reach

Where a Tamil version can be watched.

Tamil is one of several major languages of India, where it is the language of the southern state of Tamil Nadu, and one of the languages of Sri Lanka, spoken mainly in the north and east. It is also one of several languages used in Singapore and Malaysia. For a creator, a Tamil version reaches a part of southern India where Hindi is not the everyday language, along with Tamil communities around the world.

CPM is what advertisers pay, not what a creator earns. Pay depends on where viewers watch, the niche and YouTube Partner Program eligibility. No result is guaranteed.

Before you publish

What to check in a Tamil dub.

A dub can't be corrected word by word, so listen to the result before you post it, ideally with a native speaker.

  • Formal or spoken Tamil

The Tamil of news, books and speeches is very different from the Tamil people speak at home. Listen for whether a casual video has come out in the formal style, which can sound like a public announcement.

  • Respect in the verb

Tamil marks respect in its pronouns and verb endings: "nee" for a friend, "neengal" for elders, strangers and an audience. Check that viewers and the people you mention are spoken of with the respect you intend.

  • India or Sri Lanka

Tamil in India and in Sri Lanka differs in accent and in many everyday words. Listen for which variety you hear.

Questions

Questions before you start

Which languages can I translate into Tamil from?

You don't choose a source language: the spoken language is detected automatically. You choose Tamil as the language to dub into.

Will the Tamil voice sound like the original speaker?

Each voice is created from the original speaker, so it should sound similar, not identical. Clear speech with little background noise gives the best result.

Which variety of Tamil does the dub use?

There is one Tamil option, with no regional variants to choose from. If a regional audience matters to you, ask a native speaker from that region to listen before you publish.

Can I get Tamil subtitles instead of a dub?

No. DubSync makes a dubbed MP4, not a subtitle file.

How long can the video be?

Up to 150 minutes and 1 GB per file, as an MP4, MOV or M4V.

How is a Tamil dub priced?

By the input minute: the length of your original video, for each target language. You upload first and see the minutes and the cost before anything starts.
